The observations in this post are fabulous. Some have a very subtle elegance for being a gracious participant and others hit the nail on the head for what can easily become common sense.

This is great clarification on things that define the effective use of Social Media and keep it on the conversational and interactive levels.

Thanks for this write up.

Yes, you are exactly right. My whole point is that social media needs to be a two way conversation in order to be effective. If it's only one sided, where you just talk, or you just listen, then it won't work.

I give my wife a lot of grief for being a Facebook stalker. She has an account with a lot of friends, but all she does is look at photos and read what other people are writing. She never contributes to the conversations! She thinks I'm a huge dork for ribbing her about that stuff, but whatever, it bothers me! haha

Erik, I ran into this post on Brazen, and I loved it so much. I am actually looking to turn my newest blog into a business a within the next year, and I have to work very hard to toe the line to make sure I'm not just shouting my own name over and over again. The thing about social media is that, by its very nature, you have to want to listen just as much as you want to talk, if not more. If you are just talking and not listening, people will notice and be turned off. Thanks for this awesome post!
