How To Get The Promotion You Want

October 18th, 2007 · No Comments

There is one thing and one thing only that will always help you get the promotion you want. Maybe there is another position within the company that you are looking for, but you don’t know what to do to separate you from the other competition. I have the secret to help you get that new position or promotion…

Be Persistent!

If you can find the balance between being persistent but not being annoying, you will find yourself getting promotion after promotion over others that may be more qualified than you. If you want to separate yourself, think and act the way another business person wants you to act. The world of business can be cut throat, and I’m not telling you to do whatever it takes. Never compromise your morals just to get a promotion. But, you can impress a hiring manager by showing your enthusiasm for the new position. Follow up with the hiring manager once a week to check on the status of the hiring process. If you are required to interview for the position or promotion, make sure you convey your eagerness to obtain the new position. Business men and women like people who go out and get what they want.

What if your company does not offer much opportunity for advancement? Maybe a promotion has not even been announced. Maybe you have noticed a need for a totally new position that would fill a need in the company. Make a proposal to upper management. The worst they can say is “No!”.

My question to you, “How bad do you want it?” Again, maintain a level of professionalism, but do the extra things that set you apart from other candidates. You’ll see that the results will be favorable, and you will move up the corporate ladder much quicker than those that wait for opportunities rather than seeking them out.
