Facebook is one of the greatest web applications of our time, but it can easily be a black hole for your time if you are not careful. Even when you are trying to work on a Facebook page to market your small business, it’s easy to wander off to an old high school classmates profile. Facebook is a nosey person’s dream. My wife spends about an hour a night on Facebook, but she rarely ever contributes anything to it. She just loves looking to see what old friends write and tab through their photos. If you want Facebook to be a productive tool in your social networking and not a time waster, then you need to create news feed lists of the people that you want to keep up with the most. In my group of Facebook friends, I have high school friends, college friends, hometown friends, professional/work contacts, immediately family, acquaintances, and best friends. The people that I keep up with the most on Facebook are usually updates from my best friends and family. Setting up a news feed list that shows only news and updates from friends and family helps you focus on the people that you want to keep up with and interact with the most on Facebook. Here is a quick tutorial to set up this list.
Step 1: Click on your “Friends” tab, and Click on “Create New List”.
Step 2: Name your new list something like “Best Friends and Family” or “Most Read”
Step 3: Select the people on your friend’s list that you want to keep up with the most.
Step 4: Click on “Create List”
Step 5: Now, click on “Home”, and in the top left corner, you will see your new list has been created. Click on that list, and your news feed will be filtered to show only the friends you selected for that list.
So, now when you log into Facebook and you only have a few minutes to get up-to-speed on what your friends are doing on Facebook, you can click on that list instead of scrolling through tons of unwanted news feed updates.
