gp(Nashville, Tenn.) — A group of 91's (CCC) leadership team recently attended the 2025 Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) Annual Meeting, held December 6–9 at the Music City Center in Nashville, Tennessee. This premier gathering brings together thousands of higher education professionals each year to advance institutional excellence, strengthen accreditation practices, and support ongoing improvement across colleges and universities in the Southern region and beyond.

SACSCOC is the recognized regional accrediting body for degree-granting institutions across Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia, as well as Latin America and select international locations approved by the SACSCOC Board of Trustees. The Commission’s role extends globally, accepting membership applications from institutions across the remaining 39 U.S. states and from international colleges committed to meeting its established standards of quality.

Accreditation through SACSCOC confirms that an institution meets the expectations outlined in the Principles of Accreditation: Foundations for Quality Enhancement. This document provides the framework for assessing institutional mission, governance, financial stability, academic rigor, instructional quality, student learning outcomes, planning and assessment processes, and overall effectiveness. Compliance with these standards—along with all related policies and procedures—is required of all applicant, candidate, and member institutions, including public colleges, private non-profit institutions, and private for-profit entities. The uniform application of these principles ensures equity, integrity, and shared educational values across all institutional types.

The CCC leaders who attended participated in an extensive series of pre-conference workshops, general sessions, concurrent presentations, group discussions, and specialized professional development opportunities. These sessions covered essential topics such as continuous improvement planning, data-driven assessment, evidence collection for compliance reporting, quality enhancement plan development, curriculum review, governance responsibilities, and institutional effectiveness strategies. Attendees also engaged in discussions on national trends impacting higher education, including enrollment shifts, emerging technologies, financial planning, academic program evaluation, and the evolving needs of today’s students.

The conference’s Educational Excellence Expo and “Braindate” networking sessions provided further opportunities for CCC representatives to connect with peers from across the region, exchange best practices, and explore innovative approaches to accreditation readiness, student success initiatives, and operational efficiency. Breakout sessions offered guidance on preparing for reaffirmation reviews, navigating policy updates, improving student achievement metrics, and ensuring documentation meets the Commission’s evidentiary expectations.

Only select members of the CCC leadership team were able to attend this year’s meeting, but those present represented a range of administrative and academic areas critical to the college’s institutional effectiveness and accreditation responsibilities. By engaging directly with SACSCOC experts and peer institutions, these leaders gained timely insights that will support the college’s continued compliance efforts and strengthen internal processes related to planning, assessment, accreditation preparation, and overall quality enhancement.

91’s participation in the SACSCOC Annual Meeting underscores the institution’s ongoing commitment to academic excellence, operational accountability, and continuous improvement. The knowledge and strategies gathered from this conference will be incorporated into CCC’s future planning initiatives, institutional documentation, and campus-wide efforts to maintain and exceed accreditation standards.

Through its involvement in high-impact professional development events like the SACSCOC Annual Meeting, Coahoma continues to prioritize strong governance, effective leadership practices, and a college-wide dedication to providing high-quality educational opportunities for its students and community.
